MALARIA
article 2
article 3
For those of you that don't know malaria is a deadly parasitic disease that travels though mosquitoes and also gives them a long life.Although the summer is over, for you late vacationers hot forgien areas might not be the best of places due to mosquitoes. I do not like mosquitoes at all due to the fact that I am allergic to those pest. Recent studies suggest that even if you were a survivors of the disease there is no sure way rid your body of all of it. This explains why many who have had the disease can experience symptoms later in their lives. This disease shouldn't restrain you because as long as you carry the proper protection. I personally choose the OFF fan instead of sprays due to the fact they can be irritating. Also nets can be helpful when sleeping near areas with lots of mosquitoes.

SLEEP!!!!!
Sleep is a very important factor when it comes to functioning well especially for adolescents and children in school. Research states that children today are not receiving nearly as much sleep as they should. Teens tend to not sleep as much as they should because they enjoy staying up til early morning with friends. Children usually don't get enough sleep due to their parents not enforcing bed time. Infants need about 18-20 hours of sleep and as they progress to childhood 11-14 hours would keep them healthy. Teens on the other hand need 9-10 hours of sleep especially when they are in sports and other activities (this also goes for adults). In Minnesota two high-school districts decided to start later for the sake of their students. Studies show that the students raised their grades by one letter due to this change. This is awesome because I love sleep and wish that our districts could do this as well. So until next week get some shut eye!

DANGEROUS SHOWER HEADS!!!!!
http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2009/09/14/showerhead-pathogens.html
http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20090915/swine-flu-vaccines-get-fda-nod
Recently there have been studies that show there can be many microorganisms including dangerous pathogens that are living on our shower heads. This is rather disturbing because when we take showers we are suppose to be riding ourselves from dirt and germs not gaining them. The mycobacteria that live on our shower heads are no joke. these mycobacteria can cause serious health problems that can leave a person on medication for the rest of their lives (since they are similar to tuberculosis). One of the reasons these mycobacteria live in our shower heads is because its the best environment for them. These mycobacteria thrive on warm, damp, and dark places such as your shower head. The only solutions suggested would be to buy cheap shower heads and replace them every few months (preferably metal shower heads). Also trying to clean the shower heads can make things worse and increase the number of the mycobacteria. so until next time a clean washroom can be complicated.

SWINE FLU AGAIN!!!!
http://dsc.discovery.com/news/swine-flu-outbreak/
http://www.webmd.com/prostate-cancer/news/20090908/virus-linked-to-prostate-cancer
Recent studies state that H1N1 virus other known as the swine flu is more common in children and young adults due to the school environment. During the school year it is easy for viruses and many different forms of bacteria to be passed from student to student. More recent research has stated that swine flu can be more vital to children 4 and under along with children who have neurodevelopmental conditions. One main concern that I have is the amount of deaths that the swine flu causes not only to our youth but to our elderly as well. The swine flu epidemic is a serious matter but can be easily prevented through simple clean habits. Also keeping a closer eye on our youth and elderly when symptoms seem to occur would be a good way of jumping on the ball before it gets away.
